HCE : Standard of race
Standard of race

The Highland Cattle, as we know it today, originates from the Scottish Highlands, specifically the high plains of north-west Scotland. This country, which is characterized mainly by its austerity, extreme weather and living conditions, calls for raising and breeding of an ox which knows these possible adverse and extreme conditions to face with character and physical properties and yet meets the desirability of farm animals. Such a robust, durable and easy in the attitude of ox  was found in the breed of Highland Cattle.

Extreme living conditions in this region and preceltic on the offshore islands that means, high rainfall on stony and not very fertile pastures in summer and very long, wet and hard winters, without any special feeding and stall required an absolutely adaptable and resistant animals. Over the centuries, shaped the breed.

The special properties of the Scottish Highland cattle are: Robustness, durability, good nature but also with good defensive capability suckler cows.

The Scottish Highland  beef is now pulled in more than 200 years for this very special characteristics in pure culture in Scotland. The herd book, which exists since 1884, in cooperation with its breeder, reviewed the animals by type, muscles and form it is due to this fact that, the breed is enjoying great popularity thanks to its originality. Once threatened with extinction, today there are Highland cattle in many regions of the world.

The Scottish Highland cattle is supposed to have a harmonic body in correct proportions. It is depending on pasture and climate conditions in the home country, a small to medium-frame cattle. We will prefer to breed more the larger frame. A small framed animal that has grown up under extremely harsh rearing conditions, due to its genetic potential can bring in more favorable conditions, a position in the foundation stronger offspring. All breeding efforts should be based strictly on the robustness, naturalness, vitality and character, and not to change the Scottish Highland cattle. Long life with many raised calves that come without the help of the world, with extremely low race-specific disease susceptibility are some key features of this breed.

Scottish Highland bulls are calm, sociable animals, according treated to an advanced age are easy to handle. For dams which are fortified, you should show after the birth a prudent respect.
